Cleaning Your Edelbrock Aluminum Intake Manifold

While networking with consumers at shows and events, we learn a lot about our customer and what they want from Edelbrock. The old adage, “necessity is the mother of invention” is very true in most cases. This leads us to the question that has incited us to write this Edelbrock Tech Tip feature, “How do you recommend I clean my Edelbrock intake manifold”?Edelbrock intake manifolds are manufactured from a sand cast process utilizing 808 aluminum alloy and have an as-cast wheel-a-brated finish. As-cast is defined as a raw aluminum finish without any protective coating. As-cast aluminum is porous and can absorb under-hood chemicals such as dirt, grease and fuel, resulting in discoloration, rust, or staining. All Edelbrock intake manifolds are as-cast unless offered in our high-luster EnduraShine™ or PermaStar® coated finishes.

Once a porous aluminum finish is stained, it can be very difficult to find an environmentally safe cleaner that will actually extract the blemish from the pores of the aluminum. In our research in finding a safe and effective alternative, Edelbrock has found an aluminum cleaner option that can work effectively, OxiSolv Aluminum Cleaner. It is important to follow OxiSolv’s instructions to prevent damage to other parts on your engine.

Manufactured by OxiSolv, a manufacturer of industrial and commercial cleaning products, OxiSolv Aluminum Cleaner is effective for use in cleaning our as-cast aluminum intake manifolds, cylinder heads, and water-pumps when used as directed. Mustang GT Full Length Headers from Flowtech

For the first time Flowtech is offering a high-performance, full length header for the 2005-06 Mustang GT V8. They feature near equal length primary tubes, tight tuck slip fit collectors, and all factory emissions connection hook-ups. These headers have been optimized for off-road and racing use, yet they function equally well in street applications. Designed for a simple install, they go in easily from the bottom and require un-hooking the steering column shaft from the coupler, which Flowtech estimates to be a 5 minute job. While all emissions connections are intact, Flowtech recommends an O2 simulator to be used with these headers. Available in two finish options; heat resistant black, or Flowtech’s unique Thermal Barrier coating.

You’ll find MSD support at a number of shows, races and events throughout the year. One of the most popular questions we received last year was whether our caps were available in black. It seems that a lot of people with restified muscle cars or detailed engine compartments would prefer to be a little more subtle than our red caps would allow.

MSD 84333 Distributor CapWe went down to our injection mold department and waited until one of the machines ran out of the MSD red DuPont® Rynite material. Once the operator turned away, we filled the hopper with black material and flipped the on switch. The result is a great looking satin black cap that is supplied with our wire retainer.

Centerforce releases Mustang DFX clutch 01148075

Centerforce introduced their SFI Approved 11” DFX clutch assembly for the 1999 to 2004 Ford Mustangs with aftermarket 26 Spline Input Shafts. DFX is Centerforce’s latest series of extreme performance clutches designed as a direct bolt in for perfect fit and function. DFX offers excellent performance, not only with holding-capacity and strength, but also provides some of the best drivability from a race-inspired clutch. All DFX performance clutch systems utilize a patented ball bearing design for light pedal and quick release, nodular iron pressure plate rings and reinforcements designed to help prevent drive strap breakage and safety. The Paddle or button style disc has been through constant testing of different friction materials and hub designs to bring the best possible combination available to you. Centerforce 01148075 is an 11 inch clutch assembly for vehicles using a 1-1/8”-26 spline transmission.

Comp Cams introduces Thumpr™ Camshafts

Nothing brings more attention to a car than the sound of its engine, especially at a car show or cruise-in. Comp Cams’ new ThumprTM Series of camshafts provides power you can feel and hear! In the past most cam designs that produced a noticeable thump in the idle sacrificed economy and drivability. These cams have been engineered with lobe profiles that maximize the rough-idling characteristics of the cam without negatively impacting the power output or streetability of the engine. These retro-fit hydraulic roller camshafts are designed for use in 1955-1998 262-400 cubic inch Small Block Chevrolet engines that were originally equipped with flat tappet camshafts.

Part numbers available are:

Comp Cams 12-600-8 - Designed for operating ranges of 1900 to 5600 RPM. Advertised duration is 283in./303ex. with valve lift of .511/.497. This cam is designed for high performance street engine builds. Works okay with a stock converter, but works best with a 2000+ stall converter and gears. Choppy idle

Comp Cams 12-601-8 - This cam is designed for high performance street builds that may see some time at the strip. Designed for operating ranges of 2200 to 5900 RPM. Advertised duration is 291in./311ex. with valve lift of .521/.507. Needs a massaged engine with 9:1 compression ratio minimum. We recommend a dual plane manifold, preferrably the Edelbrock Air Gap 2601, and headers. Drivetrain needs gears and a 2500+ stall converter. Rough idle!

Comp Cams 12-602-8 - This cam is designed for high performance hot street and drag strip engines. Designed for operating ranges of 2500 to 6200 RPM. Advertised duration is 299in./319ex. with valve lift of .531/.517. Needs a minimum compression ratio of 9.5:1. Manifold, headers,gears and a 2800+ stall converter are required. Very rough idle!
